summer trend: neon!

okay so let me just start this off by saying i originally just wanted to post about this FANTASTIC boyfriend style blazer featured in the Diane von Furstenberg Resort 2012 collection, and then i remembered i also had a super useful site to share with you guys.
i seriously want this jacket.
the versatility alone makes it spectacular.
it's probably going to cost a pretty bundle though, sigh.

as much as i love to lament about my college student budget woes, i'll go on with the post.  as far as the DVF 2012 Resort collection goes, i will say that it is as per usual fab, and that the bright pops of color in the majority of the outfits keep it totally fun and flirty.  I love neons, esp for summer, and ofcourse if done right in the winter via a poppy nail color or bright shoe.  But for summer i am adoring the idea of wearing a neutral ensemble with a neon pop a la DVF.  what do you guys think?

also gorgeous on the runway and (probably off of it as well) this little number:
i am a total sucker for anything coral,
and yes this does it for me,
stunning.
plus am i the only the one that finds orangey hued outfits go smashingly with aqua, because that aqua bag is working all kinds of wonderful on this look.
ps: how cute is the model's makeup? so fresh faced, loving the winged liner.

another neon vixen:
Ashley Greene
photocredit to whomever shot the above picture!

her dress is by Michaels Kors (who is fittingly standing right next to her in the picture above) and is from the Michael Kors Resort 2012 collection, love the color! definitely a statement mini.

oh and also neon works amazingly well in the beauty department:

Dior Addict Lipstick in Diorkiss (#578) $28
quite the punchy pink no?

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren $7-8 depending on your area
classic summer color!

Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Chronic $17
now this would make for a gorgeous summer eyeliner (esp with a neutral eye for work!) or even on its on i think it would look great, thoughts?

Essie Pretty Edgy $8
not a traditional neon by any means, but essie's pretty edgy from last years summer collection is a color i personally own and happen to love.  trust me, you'll stand out.

Chanel Le Vernis in Mimosa $25
in my mind,
its very difficult to go wrong with Chanel.

photocredit to essie
Essie Brazilliant $8
this little number is from the summer 2011 collection and it is just the thing to perk up one's day.
such a fun summery orange...reminds me of sitting beach side while sipping on pink lemonade, now thats something every blogginista needs! :)

oh and before i forgot, you guys should check out racked.com!
the link above is specifically for NYC but they cover a bunch of metro areas and let you know of all the deals and steals going on in your part of town, honestly, who doesn't want to know about a stellar sale?

here's to some great summer finds, enjoy the bargains!

street style: kourtney kardashian

you all know that i love Kim Kardashian as much as the next gal, but what i'v really been noticing lately is her stylish sister!  Kourtney K is the oldest of the sisters, a busy mom, and a fashion starlet in her own right.  The cute momma is often seen wearing the more fashion forward pieces of the three sisters, while Kim and Khloe tend to stick with more curve hugging ensembles, Kourtney (i think largely in part to her small frame) wears drapier, higher end pieces.  The girl knows how to rock Chanel boots and is seen wearing a lot of the same pieces more often, which leads me to believe that she does indeed have a style all her own.   Plus, her son Mason has to be one of the most adorable (and well-dressed) kids on the planet.  I love how Kourtney dresses her frame and knows her body type.  Here's an ensemble she wore recently that could easily translate into any budget and look just as chic:

i really like how she used the bright orange Hermes bag to offset the relatively neutral look.
The shirt tucked into the jeans really makes the look a bit more structured, and i love how both she and Mason are wearing vests! here's to fun moms with style!

british style star: Emma Watson

The beloved Harry Potter actress recently announced that she would be leaving Brown University this spring, and while there were a lot of rumors that Emma was leaving due to bullying the actress has officially let it be known that this is not the case.  In my opinion as long as she gets her education she's fine, and as Emma has also said she would be returning to university in the fall, just not where.  My bets on NYC. But anyway regardless of where she get her degree and when it's nice to see an actress actually attempting to do it, the fact that she even got into Brown shows that Ms. Watson has an enormous amount of intelligence and potential.  While the HP series is what brought her to fame, i think it's her impeccable sense of style and grace that has kept her in the public eye.  As the face of Burberry, Lancome, and a number of other major brands, the girls got style and a lot of consumer appeal.  It's easy to see why companies are clamoring over Emma, her new shorter do' keeps her looking sexy yet chic at the same time and there's just something about the British ;)

here's one of my favorite looks:

Marchesa dress
Brian Atwood pumps

as well as the ensemble she wore to the after-party:

lime green Marchesa mini (absolutely positively IN LOVE with the color and the cut-esp for summer!)
Salvatore Ferragamo pumps

oh another Brit i'm loving (for other reasons of course):

3
Tom Felton at the MTV Movie Awards
looking every bit effortlessly put together
what is about british men that is just so sexy?
haha oh well, lets just enjoy Tom's fab look,
im particularly pulled towards the breton striped shirt,
like i said before,
effortless.

trend: summer style for men

the wall street journal OFF DUTY style section, did a spread in May which really caught my eye.
(sorry for the horrible quality-blame my blackberry)
but if you look at the top it features a menswear trend that i am loving for summer and spring.
quite yacht-y and preppy i think the having a nice button down with a new england print like gingham and a matching solid tie is a downright chic idea for men. it keeps them look classy and put together while at the same time, quite comfortable. so if your man is into dressing up a little bit whether it be for a summer cocktail party or a dressy luncheon, pass on the little tid bit of advice via the journal.
heck, we all know it beats a baggy t-shirt and awful fitting jean shorts.
heres my take on the trend:

another fantastic find in this little spread:
the omega watch.

fathers day is coming up folks,
why not splurge on dad if you have a little extra cash lying around? ;)

Looks I love: Liv Tyler in NYC

take a cue a la Ms. Tyler and rock some appropriate summer trends.
i love the way she paired a striped top with nautical and bright blue high waisted shorts, and the button detailing is fab! by letting the shorts be the center of the ensemble Liv manages to look totally put together and chic.

heres another spin on the look:

take time to reflect.

over the past few days i've been reflecting back on my days at university, the time completely flew by and i feel like theres a lot that went overlooked.  one of the most important and well founded aspect of my college career that i think i should share is the fact that we give ourselves very little "me" time.  i feel like as students we're always obligated to worry about grades, papers, internships, jobs, volunteer work, etc, and spending time on one's self gets thrown to the side.  now that its summer and i've finally gotten some "me" time, albeit, very little, it's given me a chance to appreciate everything i learned this year in college.  here are a few of the best tidbits:

+ okay so as most college students are oft to do: i gained weight, like much more than i would like to admit, and at first i was completely and utterly horrified.  how did i let myself go to this extent? whats wrong with me? all that nonsense.  it took me a few very strained days to realize that it happens. move on.  i certainly wasn't the only one who did, so instead of looking at it in a bad way i look at as something that i can learn from, an experience, i'm content in knowing the weight will drop, but everything i learned certainly wont.

+ also having to do with the whole self love scenario is the fact that many times i felt down and extremely stressed, my professors were swarming me with work, i wasn't feeling my best and i definitely didn't look it.  so i did what any insane student does, i shopped for a bit, and after being whole heartedly broke for most of the year i realized that i just had to calm down, put down the wallet, step back and love myself.  as the cliche goes: love yourself so you can love others.  its very true.  the more accepting you are of your flaws, which really aren't flaws but characteristics which make you unique and spectacular, the better a person you become.  look towards everything that's fantastic about you: warm personality, graciousness, kindness, killer smile, and so on and know that someone out there loves you as you are because thats what makes you, YOU! (btw wearing cute outfits totally benefits the whole loving yourself  thing, the better you look the better you will feel = guaranteed, folks its just as easy to put on jeans and a nice top as it to slip on your school embossed sweats, the jean's will look much cuter_i promise!)

+ you will make mistakes! hell yes your going to stay up all night before your final paper is due watching youtube videos, damn straight your going to the club on the night of your midterm, and you know why? because you are human. we make mistakes, we learn from them. better now than in the real world.  the best part is that its okay, college is the time to experiment, find yourself, surround yourself with interesting, wonderful people who will support/encourage/party/love you.  besides, you will need a story or two when you have kids of your own, mom/dad were fun once. ;)

+ study and take every opportunity to learn something new that is thrown at you.  you won't regret it, as someone who rarely studied for exams in high school and got high grades (yes i was that kid) i'm letting you know right now, college is a whole other ball game.  YOU NEED TO STUDY or you will fail. simple as that, unless your some super genius or something...but for the rest of us kiddies, good study habits are a must.  i didn't do it as much as i'd have like to this semester but next one i am definitely buckling down, after seeing firsthand how studying can positively affect one's grade.  remember, there's always something sexy about intelligence.

anyways that's just some stuff i wanted to share with my blogesphere, hope it helps!

bella

looks i love: Charlotte Casiraghi - the amfar gala at cannes

Royalty tends not to disappoint, as proven by the gorgeous and simple look worn by Charlotte Casiraghi at the amfar Gala at Cannes last month.  Designed by Chanel the simple yet elegant frock showed off her great gams, while class black peep toe pumps polished off the look.  Although I would've liked to see a different hairstyle the young royal proved that understated is the way to go.

fall 2011 trend: minimalism

according to vogue paris, the minimalist trend is here to stay! while i think the style can sometimes look a bit boring, if styled correctly it can bring a whole new level of chic to any outfit.  here's an example off the runway:

although it might not be as workable for everyday to wear all beige, this particular number makes it look effortless and oh so parisian chic.  The look can easily be translated into mixing other neutrals such as black and white with a pop of color or if you want to stick with the all over minimalist trend than using accessories is a great way to make it stand out from the norm.  The mustard colored shoes and waist emphasizing belt keep this look from falling flat.  For a more everyday spin on the look, check out this inspirational ensemble:

the yellow bag is just the pop she needs to keep the outfit fresh and modern.
minimalist style is an easy way to stay on trend for next fall. happy shopping!

editorial: Vogue Italia featuring Alexa Chung

alexa chung for vogue italia this month is one of the better spreads i've seen on the fashion magazine circuit.  she always manages to get styled beautifully, i'm particularly loving the patterned tights in this spread.  alexa's lady like silhouettes really keep the whole ensemble prim and pretty while the tight body con fit adds a bit of edge and sex appeal.  what do you guys think?
